THE OVERVIEW OF THE CHALLENGE #2

The Startupper of the Year by Total Challenge 2018-2019 is: 55 calls for projects in 55 countries, nearly 50,000 sign-ups with more than 13,000 eligible applications, and above all, enthusiastic candidates from all over the world. On social media, over 168,000 likes have been counted — a ringing endorsement of the attractiveness of the chosen projects! Following a selection process supported by social entrepreneurship professionals, 165 winners, 55 winners of the “Female Pick” award and 6 Overall Winners gave the best of themselves. They showed their ability to offer innovative solutions with a strong social impact and that meet the needs of their local communities. From waste recovery to fight against malnutrition to green accommodation for students as well as co-working spaces aimed at active mothers and their children, let’s discover the variety and depth of the winning projects! Grand Winners for Africa : Nigeria

AgroData Network promotes organic farming via community-based beekeeping providing farmers with free beehives. The company deploys natural techniques to keep the bees within the ecosystem.

Phalama Nonhlanhla Bohlale : Davinon Hydroponics Project

Grand winners for africa : Sudáfrica

Project establishing hydroponics farms, without soil, in rural schools and orphanages to improve facilities and quality of education (30% Profit to schools).

Mugagga Arnold: SeatPack

Grand winners for africa : Uganda

The SeatPack, is a schoolbag that performs the duties of a desk, by turning into a chair with a writing pad. The cost for one desk for 3 children is equivalent to cost of 4 SeatPack.

Bikelite is an urban mobility system based on the safety of cyclists and consists of a mobile app developed for Android and iOS devices.

Bambuhay social enterprise provides bamboo products (straws, paper, etc) to replace plastic products, by empowering marginalized communities of farmers.
